Prove you’re a 90’s kid and just listen.
I think everyone needs to calm down about race-specific cosplay. I my eyes, the color of your skin doesnt matter, its how well you do the character and how good your costume is.
At A-Kon 2011 this year, I was walking around with my friend when I saw a girl in a seven years war Hungary cosplay outfit. It was beautiful. There was exquisite detail and lovely pearls and fabric, it was a beautiful cosplay (I’m sad I didn’t have my camera), and she was Muslim. She wasn’t wearing a wig, and had a hijab on. She was sitting by a big group of hetalia cosplayers (all of which were being annoying) and she had one friend by her, but none of the other hetalia fans were including her, which I thought was super rude.
I walked over to her and told her, “You have the loveliest Hungary cosplay I have ever seen.” The hetalia people all glanced over at me. She smiled and looked up and said, “Nobody has been able to tell I was Hungary! How did you know?” I smiled and pointed to the flower on pinned onto her hijab and said, “Its the flower, Hungary always wears flowers! Everyone knows that!” She was beaming after I talked to her, and after I left, a few Hetalia people walked over and talked to her.
It doesn’t matter your race or religion or anything while your cosplaying, and thus people shouldn’t judge. As long as you put effort and your heart into it, you are that character, no matter what.
P.S-Goddess, don’t let these people bring you down. You are beautiful, and those who are out there calling you names and thinking they can hurt you are obviously jealous and/or insecure about their own selves. You are the best, and your blog always makes me laugh. Gracias mucho.
